NCU TMC & Yang Ming TMC

I spent two days visiting these two clubs, and would like to share sth here.............

NCU TMC is really a student-like club, youth and energetic. The characteristic of this club is their joke point, kind of hard to understand, but i always followed the laughter and laugh out loudly with them. Students really like to do sth wired or strange to make others fun and happy, and they are like this style, very special! Besides, there are so good guys, funny tina, maggie, joyce, iries, etc. Joyce is very charming girl, and she is also a english speaker, i like her very much, hmmmm, i can talk to her soon.

YM TMC is a class-like club, members there are toooo shy to talk in the class. So, i was invited to the stage to say sth, answering table topic and a general evaluator, wow it was my first time to be the general evaluator, it was sooooooo cool and great, i enjoyed my sharing very much, it was great moment for me. Also, the campus is really unforgetable, it was......simply awesome, i like this place very much, hope i can come here again.

1221

Happy Birthday!
I was born in this very cold winter, "the day was very very cold but mother's heart was very very warm at that time." My mother had ever said these words to me.

I was the first baby for my mother, and my mother suffered for many hours to give a birth to me cause' my head was toooooo big, my mon always complained that to me. I said sooooooorry, mon, it is the god's fault, not my fault. However, i felt grateful for my mother's hardwork.

My papa is a baker, he would make a birthday cake for me whenever my birthday came in my early age but i didn't have any impression. I was so touching until i saw the picture of my first-year-old birthday cake and I. I knew not only my mon but also my father loved me very much.

12/21 will be my 24-year-old birthday, how will i will celebrate my birthday, hmmm i am still thinking about it..........

Toastmasters' X'mas Party

Hey. guys,
Share some things interesting about my Toastmasters' X'mas party here, hope you will have a crazy and fatanstic X'mas!

Here i wanna thanks for my beloved members doing their best to design such a great party for us, and i really enjoyed it! Sorry that i couldn't offer any effort to this party, but here i wrote some things to record this great party. We got two dressing style in the party, elegant and sexy&spicy styles. Also, i found the craziest club is Taoyuan TMC, they got many great dancers and one great singer, and we are toooooooo shy in the party. There are soooo many things to talk about, here i just choose some things great to share, hope you would like it. Finally, thousands of thanks to all my beloved Yzu members, thanks very much.

Here comes Our Toastmasters' Party
Yesterday i went to Div. E X'mas party, I had a lot of funs there. There are several TMCs, YZU, Taoyuan, Guanxi, Legend, Chungli, Sampo, Longtan, NCU, about 80 people there, it's very very hot, exciting and crowdy. The interesting parts of our party,

Firstly, the theme of our party was Gold, so we wore any thing gold to join the party, and anybody who wore the most fabulous gold clothes won the party king or the party queen, and I just put on my gold paratrooper badge to join the party.

Secondly, my mentor, winny, she was the party master, she wore a very cute X'mas tree clothes with a lot of gifts on it, and she asked the audience any Qs later, and the audience chose gifts on her clothes when they got the right answers.

Thirdly, each TMC had one progam in the party,
YZU performed a very sexy latin belly dance, they were soooo amazing and gogeous, i loved these sexy girls soooo much!

Taoyuan performed a black cat show, it was a very high and energetic dance, they were the best dancer in our party, you would feel sooo surprised that these 30's-and-40's-year-old mothers could perform such a great dance, move your body, shake your head, let's go dancing!

GuanXi and Chungli, each of them had a show, called Voice from Heavan, GuanXi sang a X'mas' song, the twelve days of X'mas. We enjoyed singing this song very much! Chungli sang several songs, silent night, and i forgot others, and it was very peaceful!

LongTan performed a Bamboo dance, they brought a very relaxing country atmosphere for the party.

Sampo performed a Autcion show, it was also called 男生反串秀大拍賣, one dressed in Geisha, and the other dressed in Hawaii's sexy dancer. "My god, I never saw such strong and muscular ladies in my life, are they wrestlers?." I shouted. It was the funniest show, these two "ladies" tried their best to get a high bid, and I couldn't stop laughing during th show's time cause' it's soooo funny.

Fourthly, we also had so many time to get on the stage to dance, it's about one and half hours, I liked this part the most cause' i could ask any sexy girls to dance with, doesn't it sound great?

Finally, we had one-hour dinner time before the party begun, and people enjoyed not only their dinner but also chatting with friends, it's warm and laidback!

It is all for you, hope you enjoy reading it!

Wind City's Marathon

I went to Hsinchu to join Marathon last Sun and also had a lot of funs there. My chief counseling officer in the army asked me to join this Marathon, i said yes reluctantly because I was toooooo busy in my life.

I remember that day, i woke up at 4:30 am and ate a little bit and then went to the racing place with my officer. I saw a lot of active guys when we arrived there and they played a loudly music. Wow, it is the scene before the marathon, it was soooooooooo great and i liked it very much.

We started at the early morning, 6:00am, the air was clean and fresh and the wind was very cool. The wether in the morning was very good for a jog. I really enjoyed the jog when i ran to the lake b/c the air is perfectly fresh. However, i began to feel the pain in my left leg but i really didn't wanna give up but i finally stop to walk to the end, it was damn pain! I spent 3hr running for about 17km, and i didn't finish the whole marathon. My officer spent 4:30hr running the whole distance, 42.195km, and his sock was all wet when he finished it. "It is a hard race today!" he said. The first runner spent about 3:00 running the whole Marathon.

Marathon, it is a great activity and i will join it when i have time. Also, i saw a lot of special people there. "You can learn sth different and special from them." My officer said it to me.

Dec 17th is the ING Marathon, i will go to join it. I like Marathon!!!!

NTU TMC

I was so glad to visit this top club in the first university in Taiwan last Fri. But i was sooooooo nervous during their meeting b/c their are the top of the top students in Taiwan. Every time i came here, i always have this feeling, very stressful b/c they are the elite in our country.

I was very impressed by their great english ability, especially the TM(the host of the meeting on that day, we call it TM), harry. Listening to his speaking, it is like listening to the ICRT DJ's talk, his words is sooooooooo beautiful and very confident. The meeting is good b/c there are a lot of great guys supporting this club, they are not only young but also friendly, passion, smart and diligent. But i was late to the meeting for one hour due to the traffic jam and missed a lot of great parts, it is too bad. >< Next time i will be there earlier.

I also went to their second round in M, it was soooo laidback and less stress. I had a great time there and talked a lot to Vivien(their vice president) and other guys. It seemed that i was back to my school life again, i was very happy at that time. Guess what? They thought i was a foreigner b/c i kept speaking english to them and i also look like a foreigner. But actually i am the native Taiwanese. I got a mission to come here, it is to show our Yzu TMC's passion and professional, and i did make it and also got vivien's card, i was kind of proud of this......

TMC tradition, hmmm....what exactly is it? Uncle Jack, one of our TMC experienced members said that to me, most of clubs have lost the tradition of toastmasters now, and it is too bad that we don't have the truly spirit of toastmasters and we don't follow the rules seriously now. What we do is just for fun now. The same situation also happened to our airborne now, a lot of old soldiers always complain about it. Hmmm....it is a big question to me. What on earth the traditional of TMC is? Can we make a balance between these two pionts, the tradition and the fashion? I am thinking about those Qs now.......................

Writing Practice

In order to write correctly the important is practice. It have helped me a lot to write mails, at least a mail a day.

It is better to have a native English speaker pen pal; he or she can help you if you ask him questions about your doubts in your writing.

It is important to study grammar too, there are many sites on Internet about grammar, but I prefer a printed book grammar.

I have learned that you should be not afraid to commit mistakes; one should learn from our own mistakes, the important is to keep practicing and some day we will write as a native English speaker.

So, don't be shy and start writing and posting your comments in this blog.

My Epals (My second speech for TM)

Email pal(epal)
Do you know this phrase, pen-pal? I think most of you know this phrase, and about email pal, it is like pen pal, however, instead of using traditional letter, we email pals use emails to contact each other.

Four years ago I was the freshman in the university. One day I met two special people when I was take my medical treatment in the hospital. And they are a brother and a sister. To my surprise, these two people talked to each other in English. I was very curious so that I asked them, “you why say english?” The girl got puzzle at first and soon understood what I meant and said we are Taiwanese Australian, our family had moved to Australia in their early age, therefore, we speak english not chinese. Then, I ask them to give me their email addresses because I wanna make friend with them, and they soon gave it to me, so I soon emailed to them when I came back to school. And I only got the girl’s reply several days later. Her name is Angela. Then, Angela became my first epal and we kept in touch for four years. She is the epal who I like the most, cute, shinning and diligent. I learned a lot from her through these four years, sharpened my english writing skill, learned more about her interesting life and country. Australian are not the workalcoholic people, and they like to enjoy their life. They are more easygoing and like to spend more time on their recreation.

A lot of people like to ask me why my english is soooooo great, my answer is always this one, cause’ I have a lot of epals all over the world, China, Japan, Korea, Germany, America, Mexico, and Australia.(Show some pictures about your epals) It is crazy, isn’t it? I was thinking how I can use english every day when I wan the freshman in the university, and then I soon found out that making a epal is a very good way to learn english. Therefore, I made a lot of epals in my school life. Making a epal is full of funs and benefits like improving your english, learning more about their culture, food and music and people. If you are lucky, you can be invited to their county and have a lot of fun. By making a lot of epals in my life, i became a real earthman, not just a Taiwanese.

So, are you getting interesting in making a epal? How to find a epal in your life?
Here I give you one good website for you to find a pal, Dave’s café. It is a American website for you to learn english and find a nice friend to study with. There are a lot of resources about learning english, you can go to take a look later. Besides, there are some different kinds of epals and some ways of making epals. You can try to hit on a foreigner somewhere in taiwan and ask their email address like I did shamelessly for my first poor epal. Or simply find a epal on the Internet, and both of you may not meet each other for a period of time, like my Mexican and Japanese epals. Or just ask your friends to be your epal. Moreover, instead of simply using email to contact each other, why not try to use Msn, yahoo massenger and Skype. You can talk to your epals and also see their pretty faces. Also, you can practice your english speaking and listening ability. Doesn’t it sounds cool? So, since making epals has a lot of funs and benefits, why not try to make one in your life? I promise it will make your life more colorful and fantastic!

Da vinci code

Finally Finally i finished reading it and also watching its film, it is a very good novel!
I quite like this old man, Sauniere, who designed a very perfect code for Langdon to break. He is so wise and smart old man, and he designed a lot of tresure hunts for sophia to play and enjoy whe she was little. I really hope i have such a great grandpa.

The point which i would like to talk is its plot about Sir Leigh Teabing and the priory of Sion, Leigh's ambition of looking for the Holy grail caused four important men in the prioty of sion died, the story is based on this structure to begin. To my surprise, the ending is out of my expectation, there are almost nothing for this perfect treasure hunt, but only a belief or a truth among the priory of sion. The ending is the best, although it isn't a perfect ending. The secret of christianity is still kept deeply among the priory of sion, so the world can keeping going right and normally as usual and not fall into a big chaos, therefore i call it the best ending.

Originally i thought it would be the thousand-year battle between the Catholics and the priory of sion, but i finally found out it was just a man's ambition. So i am wondering why the catholics doesn't have any action about the priory of sion. Is it a peace between them? Or the catholics dosen't know the existence of this pagan. So i think it is quite wired here..........

Ok, that is all for now, and I will share more with you later, keep waiting for it, byebye.....^^

My TMC

The picture was taken after our in-house humor and evaluation contest. I was also in this picture and had a lot of funs with them. But i came here late and missed some part of the contest, so sad. >_<

YZU TMC became part of my life, and i can't live without it now. The feature of our club is funny, humorous, interesting and relaxing. But there are lots of hardworking and emotion behind that. Members like to have a happy talk and entertain all others and creat a relaxing time on the weekend. To relieve our weekday stress seem to become the point of our every meeting. And i am learning this feature now.

There are sooooooooo many great guys in our club, and I'm gonna learn a lot of interesting things from them, oooooh, i can't wait for that. Like my mentor, she is very smart and elegant lady, i like her very much. She is my good older sister in my club. Her picture is in my website, and you can take a look.

Thanks for your attention.
Toastmasters of the day.

Band of Brothers (HBO series)

Band of brothers, HBO series, have you ever watched this seriers? I like it so much cause' it describes we paratrooper soooo well. "We are paratroopers and we are supposed to be sorrounded by the enemy." A great officer in the film said to others. It is soooooooooo hard to be a great paratrooper, and i am not qualifed for this job. >_<

It is a great series which let me know more about the front line, how the paratroopers fight with their enemy, and how terrified and cruel the war is.....You will admire the paratrooper more after watching it. We can't have this peaceful life without their sarcrifice. If you have time, go to watch it.

Learning English

There are many ways to practice English everyday, and the first thing is to practice everyday. Learning English is a task forever because language is always evolving.

I start the day watching international news on a chanel in English like Fox news.

Another daily activity of mine is reading books, novels. Now I am reading the fourth book written by Dan Brown called "Deception Point". The plot is very different from the other novels. It is based on the discovery of a Martian rock in the Artic. Inside the rock are supossedly microscopic life forms from Mars.

And finally, writing mail or posts like this one that I am writing now is another way to put in words your knowledge about English. We don't be worried about mistakes, the important is to learn from them and keep on practicing.

That's the secret! practice.

the da vinci code

I remember that i had watched a film about whether Jesus was human or not several years ago. The main charactors found Jesus' bones but a christian destroyed it at last. This christian used bomb to destroy himself and these bones and the truth was buried again in the deep earth. "You don't know how this truth will affect other christian." That christian told the main charactor before he went die.

This novel reminded me of this film, but i don't know what the name of this film is. However, it impressed me so much. I can't imagine what it will hapen if this kind of truth is really true and uncovered to all our humen. The world will probably be in chaos, i think to myself.

The da vinci code is very interesting fiction. The stroy began from the death of Jacques Sauniere, a renowned curator. This great man own some secrets but designed a lot of codes for the main charactors to break. The interesting part of this novel is about the well-designed codes, but how will the main charactor break them? I will go to find out them by myself.

I am now in the half of my davinci code reading and i have read a lot of complicated things in the novel, like Fibonacci's famous sequence and the divine proportion. Also, there are a lot of french in this novel. It is kind of challenging but i still enjoy reading this novel. Ok, i will share more with you later, take care. ^^

Reading

Reading in English is one of my favorite hobbies. It helps me to improve my vocabulary, and it keeps my mind active.
I began readings magazines a number of years ago -there was not Internet!-
And now I am reading books since two or three years. At the begining of this year I started reading the first four books of Harry Potter. I bought the US edition. The original books are written in British English. I recommend to read them. Although it is a book for kids or teens I enjoyed reading these books.

One question to ask you all

Dear friends:

Recently did I have a desire to read novels; however, I didn't know how to read them. Shall I read them word by word and know each word immediately or just scan each chapter and get the whole picture of them? Which kind of methods are you utilize in reading English novels? Show me your experiences and techniques there, thanks.

I bought "Angels and Demons" from Eslite Internet Bookstore on 24th July because it was on sale on that day. I got 31% off to get this book, and I received it today. It became the third English novel on my bookshelf. But actually, I didn't read any English novel yet. The first two novels named Harry Potter (episode II & III) were like decorations in my room. I hope I could finish them in this summer vacation.

Remember to give the some suggestions for me to read English novels, thanks!

Digital Fortress

I am reading a book called "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown.
It is about an American organization that deciphers all kind of crypted messages around the globe in order to prevent terrorism. According to the author is based in real facts.
It is an ordinary book from an ordinary author.

Pride and Prejudice

I had finish reading and watching this novel few weeks ago and thought it wasvery great. And i would like to share some thoughts with you guys. ^_^

I read the novel before watching its film, and it was really a Classics novel. It is too hard for me to read, as a result, i went to buy itschinese version after i suffered a lot on my reading. I would check the chinese one once i didn't understand its content. Like Darcy's(hero) first letter to Lizzy(heroine), what exactly are you talking about, my dear Darcy? I thought to myself. Maybe this novel is written by Old English, so it was so hard.

There are a lot of funny parts in this novel, and Mr. Bennet(Lizzy's father) was the funniest person in this novel.

"Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and Iwill never see you again if you do." Mr. Bennet said to lizzy.

"Your tempers are by no means unlike. You are each of you so complying, that nothing will ever be resolved on; so easy, that every servant will cheat you;and so generous, that you will always exceed your income." Mr. Bennet said to Jane(Bennet's first child).

^O^ Mr. Bennet is a charactor who i like the most in the novel. Don't yout hink so ? Those words appeared in both of the novel and the movie. Tell you the truth, i couldn't stop laughing out loudly when i read or watched it. It was a great classics and you can take some time to read or watch it.

YZU Toastmasters Trip

It was a great Sat afternoon(7/22) and i had a lot of funs in YZU toastermasters. Also, i had asked a pretty and elegant lady to be my mentor and she accepted my ask. I was so happy. ^O^ Her name is Winny, and i will show her picture to you later.

I felt so happy that i could join TM(toastmasters) as a member and started to greet all the guests and I didn't felt uneasy any more here cause' i am one of TM members now. I was sooo talkactive and talked a lot with my guests during the meeting. Besides, i also stood on the stage once in the meeting and talked about my favorite hobby, JOG, to my dear members.

Later i am gonna prepare my first formal speech in TM, my icebreak, an introduction about myself. How could i present the best side about myself to TM and let them feel impressed? I am still thinking about it.........My TM journey is gonna start now and i feel so nervous and challenging, but i will try my best to do all the things. ^_^

Woooooo, it was a relaxing afternoon, YZU TM, go go go!

The Da Vinci Code

In order to understand better the Da Vince code it is necessary, if possible, to read Angel and Demons by the same author Dan Brown before reading the Da Vinci Code. Anyway, you can understand the book even if you have not read "Angel and Demons"

I am not sure what to ask about the book, and how to lead to all of you in reading the book. I suggest that you make comments about the current chapter you are reading, or to comment about all the book if someone have already finished it.

Catholicism, as any religion, is based in faith, not in facts. The author says that the book is fictional but based on historical facts. Some critics says that the facts in the book are not correct and are not proved by historical evidence.

The book has not changed at all my religion or my life. For me is just another book.

I have just seen your photos

Thansks for sharing your photos with us. You are becoming a real soldier; I hope you never have to engage in a war in order to defend your country.

In the history of mankind there are been always wars, and unfortunately humans are still fighting each other.

Thinking on a positive side, you are learnining more about your country, the scenery and the benefits of discipline in your non military life.

Our tent, we built it very serious cause the night in the mountain would be very cold, and it was cold indead. The cold made me awake a lot of times, but it was sooo special to live in the tent. ^^ Posted by Picasa

A long marching troop, i was walking hard inside. It was a hot day and I sweated a lot. Posted by Picasa

Cool soldiar and cool frankie! Posted by Picasa

A beautiful view from Snow Mountain. Posted by Picasa

Welcome back, Frankie

Frankie, I read your interesting writing about your experience in the army training.
I have visited regularly this board but I have not written. Sometimes I feel tired, and usually I don't have any ideas what to talk about.

I finished reading the The Da Vinci Code book. In my opinion it is a sensationalist book. It is a shame that a book become famous only for promoting sensationalism and not for its literary value.

I am Catholic, I feel not personally offended. I am not a fanatic religious, so, I will accept any discussion about the content of this book.

Paratrooper's Love

March diary
It was 1:30 am, and I just woke up and put on my stinky solidar suit quickly and prepared for a night march. I quickly ate some candys before this long walk so that I had more energy to go. It was the dead of night, and we walked quickly and quietly on the country road, and I wasn’t very conscious at the beginning, so I just followed my friend’s every step and had no stop. Four hours later, the sun came out, wow, it was a very very very fresh and cool morning. Good morning, sun, the earth, and my good friends. It was so great to walk in this early morning!

Ah! It was so painful! How long would this pain last? How long could I persist? When would this painful training come to end? Why did I have this training? Most of my friends had been complaining about it before this training and during it. For me, I quite like it couse' it was very different experience I would have. I saw my friends suffered a lot during this long march training. One of my friends who had already hurt his knee but he still finished the march, and I admired his spirit so much. “It was like a hammer hit me on my knee while I was walking.” He told me and tried to discribe how painful it was.

On one hot day of this training, I saw some of my friends trudged on the road, some staggered and some even limped. And I gritted my teeth, endured the pain, used all my energy, breathed quickly and hard and concentrated on my walking. I didn’t want to give up, if others could do it, I also could do it. Also, I needed to help my friends and gave them support though I was very tiring. It was the fastest walk I had ever experienced. It took us two hours to walk about 13 km, and it was my unforgettable day.

Had you ever watched the spectacular cloud ocean? Had you ever lived in a tent in the mountain? Had you ever watched thousands of stars in the beautiful sky in the mountain? Had you ever drunk the unboiled and pure and cool water in the mountain? Had you ever stood in the mist in the mountain and felt quite cool? I had, I had, yes, I really had. It was a rare opportunity to live in the mountain, especially in this beautiful Snow Mountain. I could feel, use, touch, watch and even eat a lot of nature things here. My most impression of the Snow Mountain was the clean and cool water because the water pollution was almost everywhere in taiwan, I really wanted to jump into the water when I passed through a brook in the mountain. I used it to cool my hot brian and drunk it a lot, and it was so dry and pure and cool. I enjoyed watching the scenery while I was walking, and these scenic views made my road easier and even more smoothly. The mountain had a lot of treasures, but it was pity that I didn’t know how use it. I had become very poor civilized person and embraced a lot of modern technologies and already forgot our nature.

It took me 16 days(6/20~7/5) to finish this 236km long journey and it was quite impressive. I had walked so many places, like the beautiful Snow Mountain and some aboriginal villages nearby. I used my two feet to know more about the beauty of Taiwan, and I also used my feet to love our living place. Taiwan was lovely, magnificant, beautiful and awesome place though it was just 36000 square km. I used my two feet to experience the beauty of Taiwan in this summer, and the impression was unforgettable. I was very proud of myself after this challenging training, and I also loved our living place more, I love you, formosa!

The Da Vinci Code

Ok, so let's read this great nocel together and discuss it. But i haven't finish my reading, pride and prejudice, so i will read the da vinci code after it. I think it will be a lot of funs here. However, it is kind of strange or impolite or dangerous to talk about its content, such as whether Jesus Chrite is human or not here. There are a lot of radical people everywhere, and they always try to attack those who disrespecd their religion, and it is improper to talk religion in public. Also, as i know, pedro is a catholic, there must be some taboos for pedro, which we need to respect and can't talk about.

So how should we start it? Pedro, i think you can lead us to discuss this novel, and we would be glad to hear your viewpoint about this novel. I know nothing about catholic taboo but i know it is tough to argue over the truth about the live of Jesus Christ Or maybe i care too much.....anyway it is a good idea to read this novel together and talk about. So, let's kick off!

Beside, my march training is delayed again to next two weeks due to the rain, so i wi ll be absent here for two weeks but i will be back soon....waiting for me^__^

What I will do these days~

After a exhausting but exciting final exams, I am qualified to get the bachelor degree in Social Welfare department of National Chung Cheng University. But I didn't finish the departing school procedures, maybe I will do it in next two weeks. As far as I knew, if I do the procedure too early, I would lose a lot of privilege, such as lending references, exercising in school gym, and even part-time jobs in school. Therefore, I would finish my departing school procedure in ten or twelve days later. I hope all the thing will be smooth. These days I lended a lot of books in case that I would be bored in my dormitory. But thanks to the Internet, I didn't too bored these days. Today, I watched "Davinci code" in my computer at my desk; however, some scenes I could not understand totally. Perhaps I need someone to interpret the Christian history and terms. Maybe we can talk later, if we have time to have a discussion.

Book and chat

The book "Angels and Demons" it is a prequel of "The Da Vinci Code". It is said that these books are the best that have written Dan Brown.

"Angels and Demons" begins with a mysterious murder inside a subterranean scientific facility, a particle accelerator. The murdered it is a scientist who had discovered the link between God and science.

It is an interesting topic, however I didn't like the novel. It's not so bad, I would rate it as regular.

About my msn adress it is the same than my mail adress pedromx56@hotmail.com .

Catholic Church Responds to 'The Da Vinci Code'

(You can also listen to its content on the link below this article.)
After much anticipation, controversy and media hype, The Da Vinci Code has opened in theaters worldwide. The film - like the best-selling novel it's based on - is a mystery story involving a dark conspiracy by the Catholic Church to suppress some all-too-human truths about the life of Jesus Christ. Its potent blend of historical fact and literary fiction has angered Catholics around the world, and intrigued others.

At the heart of The Da Vinci Code is a woman - Mary Magdelene - who, according to author Dan Brown's characters, married Jesus and bore his child. After the Crucifixion, she moved to the south of France, and founded the Merovingian line of kings. Now in order to keep this secret, the Catholic Church, according to the book, has killed millions of people. "The very first response to this plot has to be mockery and laughter," says Austin Ruse, president of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute.

Father Thomas Eitenhower isn't laughing. As president of Human Life International, a Catholic values advocacy group, he is organizing a boycott of the film, which he says promotes Satanism and allows Sony Pictures, which produced it, to profit from prejudice and lies.

"At our baptism, we pledge to reject Satan and all his works and all his empty promises. If Sony profits from anti-Catholic bigotry this week, what can we expect in the future?"

Eitenhower asks. "Tom Hanks starring as Hitler in Sony's Mein Kampf? He quotes the New Testament injunction for Christians to 'turn the other cheek' when attacked. "But we do not have to pay someone $9.50 [for a ticket] to sit in a theater and slap us for two hours."

The villain in The Da Vinci Code is an albino monk, who is a member of Opus Dei, an actual 87,000-member organization of lay Catholics. It is portrayed as the murderous hidden power at the center of the Catholic Church. Opus Dei spokesman Brian Finnerty says that Dan Brown embellished false accusations news reporters and former members have made, that Opus Dei is a secretive, even shady, organization.

"Opus Dei is an institution of the Catholic church that tries to help people come closer to God in their work and daily lives," he says. "It has been blessed by all the popes since its earliest years and Pope John Paul Second called Opus Dei's founder 'the saint of ordinary life.' Now that's the complete opposite of the portrayal in 'The Da Vinci Code'! There are no monks in Opus Dei - albino or otherwise - not even on Halloween."

Despite the harsh words in the book, some Catholics, like Father Paul Keenan, a parish priest and co-host of a religious radio talk show in New York City, see a silver lining in the Da Vinci Code controversy.

"It's an opportunity for us to form discussion groups in our parishes, to explain some of the misconceptions The Da Vinci Code has about the Church," Keenan says. "And it's a wonderful opportunity for Catholics to talk about their faith in public."

But Father Keenan notes, that's not true everywhere, such as in the Philippines, where an archbishop has said the book and film should be banned.

"It's a very different reaction from ours and I think that's because we're Americans. We're used to a variety of opinions," he says. "We are used to debate and public discussion and so it doesn't bother us so much."

Indeed, not all who call themselves Catholic are fazed by The Da Vinci Code, including Father Jim Lehman. He's with the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, an independent Catholic body that ordains women and allows priests to marry. He points out the Christian holy scriptures themselves do not specify whether Jesus was married, or not.

"The early Church had lots of fights and discussions over what it meant for Jesus to be fully human and how the divinity and the humanity of Christ were integrated together, and over time we continue to evolve and understand that," he says. "And I think we just have issues as a society and with organized religion with sexuality, and what does sexuality mean and would that diminish in some way what Jesus did? To me, it doesn't. His death and resurrection doesn't change."

Whatever the truth about Jesus and Mary Magdalene turns out to be, one thing seems certain: The Da Vinci Code has gotten a lot of people talking about religion.

Regulation of this board

In stead of forcing all you to write a article each week, here i am gonna change my policy. I don't want to press you to write or post a article in this board for each week, just try your best to do it.

For frankie, i have a reading plan in this year, i am gonna read five novels in this year, Memoirs of a geisha, Pride and Prejudice, Crime and Punishment, Brokeback Mountain and Bridget Jones's Diary. I ain't sure if i can reach my goal but i will try my best to finish it. Also, i will post my feeling and some resources about these novels after i finish each one. Besides, i will post at least an article each week and it could be just a piece of news.

And my training on 5/23 is delayed till next month, so i still have some time to come here and develop our board. It is also my board, so i would like to make it as more appealling and beautiful as possible. For all of you, just take easy in this board and be sure to remember to leave your feet track when you come here, that is really enough for me. ^_^

Sean and Paul

Hmmmm, you guys are quite busy recently......I really wanna see your articles here but you all keep me wait for quite a while, so what happened to you guys? I want to post this article to encourage you to post more articles in this board.

One reminder for you,
Don't forget to introduce yourself to my good friend, pedro, he is still waiting for all your words. Be sure to write a introduction before next Sunday, ok?

Feel kind of upset about this thing recently.....but what exactly i can do for it?

Voice Chat!

Hello, pedro,
I would like to talk to you on the internet via Skype cause' i am kind of bored with reading a lot of emails everyday. So, do you have any Skype account? Please register one if you don't. I know a lot of people making friends through MSN or Skype now, by this way, we can train our speaking and listening ability much more. So, i would recommend you to use it for our english discussion. Also, i can ask my friends, sean and paul and somebody else, to join our talk. It will be a lot of funs for sure.

My skype account is frankie122171, if you register one, please add me into your friends' list. And i will be very glad to hear your voice through the internet. Next Weekend I am free, so we can try it, just tell me when you are free, ok?

Mexican Food

The typical Mexican food is very varied, depending of the region of the country. In general consist of fried tortillas, tacos, tamales, etc.

The average meal depends of the economical and social status. Most people eat a lot of tortillas which are high en carbohydrates and promote obesity; poor people eat beans, the main staple, and chilies.

If people can afford to eat more nutritious meals they can eat chicken, fruits, milk, vegetables.

The modern diet is influenced by the American style; people prefer to drink Coca Cola rather than milk. Hamburgers, fried chips and hot dogs are also part of the diet of Mexicans.

For my dear members of this board!

My dear members,

Welcome, paul! (Sean also need to read it)

hey, paul,
welcome to come here and study with us. I am so glad that you, who has a good english, can join our group. I think you can't only improve our english ability a lot but also make our board more colorful and fascinating. I have change your position into a administrator, so you can also design our board into an attractive one.

About this board, we, two people, just begin for a while. Originally, i hope there are not too many people here cause' it is a group's board, not a club's board. Also, my club's members' seldemly post something in our bbs board, not very committed to it, so i would like to find some people are more committed to write sth on this board. Besides, at first, it was my personal board, so i would like to find someone i trusted. To be honest, i don't wanna this board full of a lot of people, it will make this board messy, sooooooo i would like about four or five people discussing here. It is my opinion and it is just a beginning, later i will ask more people to join if it will be more better. And you also can invite your friend to join our board.

Take some time to read sth you like here, and don't force yourself to read all, it is tooo much for you. We don't have any clear plan in our group, so we just post some interesting things here, and for me, i have a reading plan, so i will post my feeling about the book when i had finished resding it. My next main post is about pride and prejudice, a love novel. So waiting for that. But i will post sth easy and interesting here. You can just post sth you like here or plan for it, depend on you, just be at home. Later maybe we can set goals and plan for them.

Ok, let's move and start our english learning journey and enjoy it!

Do me a favor

delete all those extra copies of articles. The internet seemed to lag and I pressed post too many times resulting in too many published articles.
Thx.

Greetings

Greetings Frankie and Sean ...
It's great to be up here
But I haven't familiar myself with the surroundings yet
There seems to be a lot of nice articles on the board
I will try to read all of them when I have time ^^
I'm still in exam so have to study !!!
Good luck you guys ...
Btw. How come there are only 3 of us up here?
Where are the rest of the English club members?

Say NO to United Nations' abolishment of Traditional Chinese in 2008

My friend send this message to me, and I would like to share it with you here. Think about it and tell me what you think of this article.

Web-site: http://www.gopetition.com/
March 24, 2006
The Chinese language has many dialects spoken yet Mandarin has always been the official language. In Mandarin, there are two present types of writings: Traditional and Simplified Chinese characters. Traditional Chinese has been the official form of writing for thousands of years. And from it, the Simplified form was born. In recent decades, China’s effort in trying to make Chinese easier for both her youth and foreigners resulted in this push of Simplified Chinese. However, at the same time, Traditional Chinese is still studied and widely recognized.
The purpose of Simplified Chinese was meant for an easier reading (with less characters) and less pen-strokes in writing characters. It is the attempt of making Chinese more phonetic rather than having many words pronounced the same.

The two forms of Chinese have always co-existed peacefully for many years. The importance of Traditional Chinese lies in the fact that each character represents a very specific meaning. This is of extreme importance because it allows the reader to understand a written word even without the word being in context.

Simplified Chinese, although convenient, fails to incorporate meaning into its characters. Many words of same phonetic sounds are replaced by a single character that possesses the same sound but lacks in meaning. The major downfall of Simplified Chinese is that it lacks meaning. Currently, historical texts are in Traditional Chinese, (simply because one can read and understand based on the author’s choice of words) however, if Traditional Chinese is to be replaced by Simplified Chinese, one would not be able to understand these texts/writings because words have lost their meanings, they simply represent a way of pronouncing the texts. As time progresses, this would result in the loss of history and culture.

UN's action to "unify" the Chinese characters and recognize ONLY Simplified Chinese will have devastating impact upon the Chinese language, culture, history. Internationally, Traditional Chinese would be forgotten and neglected, it would only be a matter of time before Traditional Chinese becomes the next “Latin”. (the dead language) Along with this loss of language, would be a culture and history lost forever.

Although Simplified Chinese is an easier way to learn Chinese, but it should not be the only form of Chinese written language. It should be a convenience, not an absolute. By allowing it to become the “official” writing, the Chinese language would be in regression.

------------------

Example of Simplified VS Traditional (provided by a fellow supporter)
The word Noodle in Chinese
Traditional: 麵 = 麥 + 面 (wheat + surface)
Simplified: 面 (surface/face/noodle)
*meaning in brackets

The Traditional form has two parts which helps to identify it as noodles. Simplified character only provides the pronouciation so the reader would be unable to determine the meaning without it's context.

-------------------

The above has been confirmed that the UN never used both Chinese forms. IN FACT, Traditional Chinese does not even exist in the UN anymore (except prior to early 1970's).
In truth, I am uncertain what will become of this petition. After all, it is a few decades late. Although, what saddens me, is the fact that Traditional Chinese has already lost its ground.
People signed this petition to fight against Traditional Chinese being abolished. YET, now that we know it's a fact, why should we not fight harder.
Some have claimed this to be a hoax. Others have supported and sent emails. I personally thank everyone of you who took time to come here regardless of your positions.

Memoirs of A Geisha 2

Share one more picture with you. I had finished reading it and writing my feeling here, hope you will like it. There are still a lot of good things i don't write down, such as geisha, this colorful career, what exactly they are doing or how about their luxurious kimono and fancy hairstyle and cute face cosmetics. I think you may be very curious about those parts, I will write those to you if i have time. But what i think importance is about the plot, so i share my feeling about that with you below. There are fewer and fewer geishas now in Japan, when refering to geisha, i think of our chinese opera(京劇或歌仔戲) is going to be extinct. So do the geisha in Japan. Maybe it is a old-fashion culture creation, which will passed away as the time goes by.

Memoirs of A Geisha

The homepage is:
http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/memoirsofageisha/international/

My feeling about this Novel

I love this novel so much after i had finished reading it. I had read her painful childhood, her arduous training, her persuit of true love, her geisha's life, her life's struggles and challenges, her good friend, Pumpkin, her sister, Memaha, her rival, hatsumomo, etc. Beisides, this novel is very inspiring, though sayuri met a lot of difficulties, she always could overcome them. And i was very curious about what a geisha's life looked like, so i read it faster and enjoyably. Sayuri is a very lucky and brave lady in this story, and my focus is on her life's challenges, not on a geisha herself.

The struggling love story
This picture is the main character, sayuri, and her true lover, chairman. They finally got together through a-long-time struggling. Sayuri, the main character, had the deep impression on her true lover, chairman, when she met him for the first time, and so did the chairman. But sayuri never knew that until chairman finally told her. One day, sayuri felt very depressed and wept beside the wall. Suddenly a man with a kind voice came to comfort her, and sayuri started to fall in love with him and hoped to meet him again in the future. Sayuri determined to become a geisha since she met chairman cause' she thought she might have a chance to meet him again. Sayuri always kept a hope, one day chairman would accept her love and they could live together forever. Originally, the chairmain also loved sayuri but daren't express it to sayuri cause' he owe Nobu, one of his close friend, a lot of debt. Therefore, the chairman wanted Nobu to get sayuri, and he kept hiding his love for sayuri for a long time. But finally the chairman had the courage to express his love for sayuri so they can live together. It is a very dramatic ending. I really lost my patient when i read this love story, "sayuri, why don't you just tell him that you love him?" I talked to myself.

A turning point
It was very inspiring story, and i was so glad that sayuri started a optimistic mind and was determined to become a geisha. Also, i found the same thing in Robinson Crusoe, looked at things in the bright side. And that was what i told you before, life is always dissatisfactory, so learn to cherish what you have and stop comparing and complaining. And this change may take some time.

Hastumomo (a wicked geisha)
She was only finacial supporter in their living place when sayuri was little, and she hated sayuri very much at the beginning and also till the end. As a result, sayuri's life there started a struggling path and very stressful. I am not sure why this beautiful geisha are so cruel, maybe there is something nobody knows but Hastumomo. You can see how sayuri suffered through the whole story. Hastumomo tried all kinds of ways to hurt her and destroy her image in order to let her leave their living place, but finally she was brave to stand up and defeated her.

In this story there are a lot of metaphors due to sayuri's great imagination. I take one for example:
Considering how cruelly Hatsumomohad treated me over the years, and how very much I hated her, I'm sure I ought to have been elated at the plan(which tried to destroy her party). But somehow conspiring to make Hatsumomo suffer wasn't the pleasure I might have imagined. I couldn't help remembering one morning as a child, when I was swimming in the pond near our tipsy house and suddenly felt a terrible burning in my shoulder. A wasp had stung me and was struggling to free itself from my skin. I was too busy screaming to think of what to do, but one of the boys pulled the wasp off and held it by the wings upon a rock, where we all gathered to decide exactly how to murder it. I was in a great pain because of the wasp, and certainly felt no kindness toward it. But it gave me a terrible sensation of weakness in my chest to know that this tiny struggleing creature could do nothing to save itself from the death that was only moment away. I felt the sort of pity toward Hatsumomo.

What do you think? I think sayuri is very kind and also very wise, the offender always suffers from his offence to others, and actually we don't need to take revenge on him.

Geisha
"The training of an apprentice geisha is an arduous path. However, this humble person is filled with admiration for those who are able to recast their suffering and become great artists. Some years ago while visiting Gion, it was my honor to view the spring dance(which performed by geishas) and attend a party afterward at a teahouse(Geisha is a entertainer there), and the experience has left the deepest impression. It gives me some measure of satisfaction to know that a safe place in this world has been found for you,,..." It is a letter from Mr. Tanaka, who made sayuri become a geisha. Sayuri was very sad and depressed at the beginning but the situation finally changed. She didn't choose the life of a geisha but rather than had been carried by the current. Isn't it like our life?

My thoughts about my military service

I gradually find out how luck we are in the army, we are the happiest generation in this century. One decade ago or more, the military service was very painful, the leaders there only would scold you or even hit you when you made a mistake. They maight even scold you or hit you without any reason. Besides, the training and punishment were sooooo severe or even inhuman. The training in the army often went beyond our human’s limiit and some maight hurt our body or even cause death. However, people always felt proud of themselves after they finished the training. Also, they would get more courage and flexible and persevere when they finish their service. As time goes by, our human right go higher and higher gradually, a lot of severe training are forbidden by our government now. Therefore, our military life now is like a holiday, a lot of our old people always said that to me. I always feel ashamed that we lead a better life in the army. And a great number of my old friends also doubt our fighting capability. We will be defeated only in few minutes when the enemy attacks us. So, I chose airborne division in order to show my courage and get severer training. To be a soldier is kind of honer, brave and not afraid of any challenge and bitter. I am in the army about three months, and I always feel very touching whenever I watch a military program, which plays a very severe training.

A lot of my friends hate military service sooooo much, almost no one like it cause’ no one are willing to come here. But I am kind of different, and I try to cherish it since we had already come here. I learned to live a different life here, a regular life(a very healthy life), a life I need to have more energy and courage and patience, a life I can live with a lot of different-class people, I try to realize our seniors and ancestors’ pains, tears, sweat and blood here. It is a very special and unforgettable experience for all our Taiwan men.

Learn to cherish all things you have, stop complaining and comparing. Sometimes you just can't change the situation, try to look it in another side, a bright side, and accept it. And it is our life.

A no formal website about my airborne division:

One of the most shocking scientific realizations of all time has slowly been dawning on us: The earth's climate has great reversals every few thousand years, and with breathtaking speed. There is a good chance that we could go back to ice-age temperatures within a decade and judging from recent discoveries, a sudden cooling could be _(11)_ by our current global-warming trend. Europe's climate could become more like Siberia's. Because such a cooling would occur too _(12)_ for us to make adjustments in agricultural productivity and supply, it could fatally damage civilization as we know it. For a quarter century, global-warming theorists have warned that we need to prevent greenhouse gases from warming things up, raising the sea level, destroying habitats, and intensifying storms. Now we know and from an entirely different group of scientists exploring separate lines of reasoning that the most _(13)_ result of global warming could be a sudden cooling. We are in a warm period now. Scientists have known for some time that the previous warm period ended 117,000 years ago, with the return of cold temperatures that led to an ice age. But the ice ages aren't what they used to be. They were formerly thought to be very gradual, with both air temperature and ice sheets changing in a slow, 100,000-year cycle tied to changes in the earth's orbit around the sun. _(14)_, our current warm-up, which started about 15,000 years ago, began suddenly with the temperature rising sharply while most of the ice was still present. We now know that there's nothing "glacially slow" about temperature change: Together with the gradual, long-term cycle, there have been dozens of warnings and coolings that lasted only centuries. There seems to be no way of _(15)_ the conclusion that global climate flips occur frequently and unexpectedly.
